A real estate broker is a trained professional subject to a strict code of ethics. They possess all the necessary skills to help you find your future home.

So, how do you choose the best one to guide you through this major step in your life?

First, keep in mind that the most important—but sometimes overlooked factor—is the rapport between you and your broker. While this is a business relationship, there is also an emotional dimension to consider. You will be spending a significant amount of time working with your broker, so it’s crucial that you feel comfortable with them. Before signing a brokerage contract, ask yourself the following question: “Do we connect?

Ainsi, il vaut mieux en rencontrer quelques-uns avant de faire un choix. Pour ce faire, vous pouvez suivre ces étapes :

1. Rendez-vous sur le site web de RE/MAX

2. Investigate

The second step is to visit the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec’s (OACIQ) website where you can consult the register of licensed brokers and check each broker’s professional history.

You can even search the broker’s online file for valuable information, such as sanctions, suspensions, or complaints filed against them, as the case may be.

3. Prefer a Professional Active in Your Desired Area

Each region’s property market has its own specific characteristics. It’s therefore crucial you select a broker with a comprehensive understanding of the geographical area where you wish to buy.

Good to Know

Because a local broker has greater insight into their area’s neighbourhoods, current prices, market trends, they can provide clearer and more targeted guidance.

4. Ask Them Any Question that Comes to Mind

When you first meet with your broker, don’t be afraid to ask them questions about the types of services they provide and don’t hesitate to tell them your expectations.

5. Trust Your Friends’ and Family’s Recommendations

Nothing beats a personal recommendation when it comes to finding a trustworthy real estate broker. Ask your family, friends, or colleagues who have recently worked with a broker. Was their experience positive? This is a potentially excellent indicator of the broker’s expertise and professionalism.

6. Maintain Open Lines of Communication

The quality of a broker’s service depends heavily on their ability to respond to their clients in a timely manner. A good broker should answer your requests and questions promptly (within reasonable hours, of course!).

Feeling confident and understood will go a long way in ensuring a smooth property search and purchase experience. Happy house hunting!
